The Mercedes-Benz GLS slots in as a three-row SUV that brings all the classic and modern features you'd expect from a new Mercedes-Benz SUV. The Mercedes-Benz GLS provides drivers with seating for up to seven, robust engine options, and a long list of comfort and convenience features. The new Mercedes-Benz GLS is available to drivers in three main trim levels: GLS 450, GLS 580, and AMG GLS 63.
Performance
The new GLS makes two engines available across its three trims. The base engine that comes with the GLS 450 is a powerful 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-6 that makes 362 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. This engine works in unison with a 9-speed automatic transmission. There's no need to upgrades to all-wheel drive, seeing as all iterations of the GLS come standard with it. The GLS also offers up a 4.0-liter turbocharged inline-6 engine, which comes with the Maybach version of the GLS. This luxurious version of the GLS manages 550 horsepower and 538 pound-feet of torque. The AMG variant of the GLS comes outfitted with increased performance features. The AMG GLS S 63 includes a performance tuned 9-speed automatic transmission, all-wheel drive system, air suspension(with active roll stabilization), steering system, braking system, and exhaust system. Additional performance features can be had via packages. The Off-Road package increases adventuring capability, with the Off-Road package adding an all-wheel drive system, a low-range transmission, off-road driving modes, an off-road-tuned braking system, underbody protection, and hill descent control.
Technology
Tech options are quite substantial regardless of the trim selected. The base GLS 450 trim includes dual 12.3-inch infotainment displays, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, a 115-volt power outlet, and a premium Burmester surround-system. The base trim also comes with wireless charging USB ports, and voice command capability. Tech remains about the same with the GLS 580 and AMG S 63. If you're looking to add in more tech, then you'll have to opt for individual upgrades. Optional tech upgrades include an improved Burmester luxury sound system, a reality navigation system, and a head-up display.
Interior Features
As you'd likely expect with a luxury SUV, the GLS comes with a set of interior features for drivers to enjoy. The GLS 450 trim comes standard with a power sunroof, faux leather upholstery, power adjustable front seats, heated/ventilated front seats, and front seat seating memory. The GLS 580 trim adds in illuminated running boards, 5-zone automatic climate control, leather upholstery, front seats with massaging functionality, and soft-close doors. The AMG GLS 63 trim adds AMG badging, heated/cooled cupholders, and premium front seats with increased support. Individual updates include a panoramic sunroof, power rear-side window shades, second row heated/cooled seats with massage functionality, a heated steering wheel, and an air balance interior fragrance system.
Exterior Features
Exterior features can be divided into aesthetic and functional. The Mercedes-Benz GLS offers up more functional exterior features Standard exterior features include 20-inch alloy wheels, automatic high beams, rain-sensing windshield wipers, power folding exterior mirrors, and a hands-free liftgate. The GLS 580 comes with 21-inch alloy wheels and illuminated running boards along with soft-close doors. The top-level AMG GLS 63 trim gains increased driver assistance features and a host of performance tuned features (exhaust, brakes). Optional exterior features include E-Active body control.
It's also worth noting that the new GLS offers up a long list of driver assistance features. The GLS makes a host of driver assistance features standard while making a variety of others optional. The GLS 450 trim come standard with forward collision mitigation, blind spot monitoring, an automated parking system, and a surround-view camera system. The AMG GLS 63 trim steps things up by adding in blind-spot intervention. There's also an optional Driver Assistance Package Plus, which expands the suite of driver assistance features. The Driver Assistance Package Plus includes adaptive cruise control, lane keeping system, lane keeping assist, evasive steering assist, and front cross traffic alert.
