Mercedes-AMG GT4 Made Debut at Circuit of The Americas Race in Texas

Earlier this month, the Mercedes-AMG GT4 made its first appearance in North America competition as it took part in the inaugural Hankook 24H COTA USA. The season-ending event in the 2017 24H Endurance Series saw Mercedes-AMG Motorsport Customer Racing teams Black Falcon and HTP both participate as "Testteam" entries.

This endurance race marked one of the final steps in the extensive test-race program the Mercedes-AMG GT4 undertook, which began In late July at the 24-hour race at Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium. "Testteam" entries completed almost 25,000 miles of race testing since debuting at the legendary Nürburgring Nordschleife in August.

The new GT4 is based on the Mercedes-AMG GT R sports car that's currently available. The race car meets the requirements of international GT4 race series, with a production-based concept that marries safety and efficiency with the latest racing technology. With the introduction of the Mercedes-AMG GT4, Mercedes-AMG Customer Racing has entered yet another GT category that offers the chance to participate in race series all over the world and compete with other GT4 machines in both demanding sprint races and endurance races.

In a press release, Tobias Moers, Chairman of the Board of Management, Mercedes-AMG, was quoted as saying, "The production-based concept is an important factor, especially when you want to get started in motorsport as a team or as a driver. For some teams, the GT4 category also serves as a sensible addition to their existing involvement in GT3, for instance to support young drivers. For us as a manufacturer, GT4 competition is a logical next step to extend our Customer Racing program."

At Mercedes-Benz of Catonsville, we're proud to offer excellent service to Mercedes-Benz drivers from the Baltimore, Columbia, Hanover, Ellicott City and Glen Burnie areas.
